The preface explains the history of scholarship, from Festugière to Runia to articles on Clement, Origen, and Gregory of Nyssa’s debt to Aristotle, among whom I see mine (here and often elsewhere). Edwards does well not to speak of Christian Aristotelianism—at least for the patristic period, not for scholasticism. ‘Aristotelianizing was sustainable only when the Prime Mover of Metaphysics 12’ was identified with the Christian God (p. x).
