Description
Summary:In Style and Context of Old Greek Job, Marieke Dhont ably discusses issues pertaining to linguistic characteristics, level of register, and rhetorical features of the Old Greek (OG) translation of Job. By also arguing for a more nuanced and complex understanding of the conventions of translation in the first century bce than is often assumed in Septuagint scholarship, she demonstrates that the translator worked according to the expected norms of translation within their Jewish-Greek context. In addition, she blazes a new trail in the field by applying polysystem theory (PST) as a framework for understanding how Jewish-Greek texts relate to one another.
