Le sujet est d’un intérêt premier pour une approche anthropologique du monachisme bénédictin à l’époque moderne.La vocation des frères convers est ici appréhendée grâce à deux types de questionnement complémentaires, l’un portant sur les textes normatifs, l’autre sur les annales et les chroniques, les notices nécrologiques ou biographiques.De par leur statut de religieux à part entière et leur profil personnel, les convers mauristes exercèrent un rôle assurément essentiel tant sur le plan spirituel que social, et occupèrent une place « stratégique » au sein des réseaux constitués par les monastères et dans leur rayonnement. The study of the Saint-Maur Congregation conversi (lay brothers) refers to the first and properly religious aspect of the Maurist reform. The subject is of great interest for an anthropological approach to Benedictine monasticism in modern times.The vocation of conversi is apprehended here with two kinds of complementary questions, one concerning normative texts, the other with annals and chronicles, obituaries or biographical notices.Having a full religious status and because of their personal profile, Maurist conversi played an essential role both spiritually and socially, and they assumed a « strategical » place inside monasteries as well as in their monastic networks. |
