Summary:This study provides historical context for the life and ministry of the ninthcentury Byzantine Abbot, St. Theodore the Studite, during the years when he rose to monastic leadership in Constantinople, and offering some examples of his vehemently articulately texts in defense of icon veneration produced during the Iconoclastic Controversy during its second phase (813-843 CE), as well as introducing some of his highly influential organisational and liturgical reforms on the behalf of his monastic community.
