The differences between bishops and Apostolic Delegate are specially considered. Thus, I try to discuss the classic interpretation that took this episode as the natural outcome of a gradual process of distancing between "laicist State" and "ultramontane church". The intransigency that characterized the Holy See in these years was often put aside due to the benefits that ancient gallican practices still could bring to local churches. | ||
