He is known, among other things, for his participation in the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), for his friendship with Paul VI, of whom he was confessor, and for his proposal to establish the World Youth Day, of which he is considered co-founder. The article presents a profile of Cardinal Pironio, a re-reading of his life in the light of his spiritual paternity, his tireless preaching of a hope capable of being incarnated in history, his love for the Cross, and his profound sense of friendship.
