| Summary: | Since the Church affirms, with Jesus, that salvation comes from the Jews (cf. Jn 4:22), a much more delicate question arises concerning salvation for the Jews. The new position of respect for Jewish people and Judaism assumed by the Church since the Second Vatican Council calls for a rethinking of the universality of salvation in Jesus Christ. This article shows both the Church’s position regarding dialogue with the Jews and her universal mission to preach Christ to all nations. In the tension between dialogue and mission, the Church sees Jewish people not only as partners in a mission to restore a fallen world, but also as collaborators in the shared responsibility to preach the kingdom of God. |
