Summary: | On March 25, Pope Francis published the Apostolic Letter Candor lucis aeternae on the occasion of the 7th centenary of the death of Dante Alighieri. As he had already done as provincial of the Jesuits of Argentina, Francis quotes the Supreme Poet, contrasting the words of the Gospel from the true foundation with the chicanery, that is, the chatter. In particular, from Dante’s masterpiece the pope praises the triumph of mercy, but also denounces and criticises those believers who betray their adherence to Christ and turn the Church into an instrument for their own interests. In this way, La Commedia becomes a spokesman for the evangelical reform of the Church. |
