| Summary: | On any measure, 2020 has been a challenging year. In Australia, the devastating natural disasters of January and February set this tone early on, and the substantial arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic on our shores in March made upheaval, unpredictability, and complexity core features of 2020. Australia has not encountered the large-scale of devastation the pandemic has inflicted elsewhere. However, the grim realities of widespread infection and death on account of the virus, the stress this has placed on our healthcare professionals and infrastructure alongside other human services, and the resulting socioeconomic fall-out from measures to contain the virus are vast. |
