Description
Summary:The paper deals with the relationship of collaboration between the diocese of Padua and the local University during the long episcopate of Girolamo Bortignon (1949-1982). Bortignon integrated university elements into his pastoral action, promoting the involvement of academics in the formation of the clergy and in the birth of the journal «Studia Patavina» and supporting the foundation of CUAMM (Collegio universitario aspiranti medici missionari). During the council period, the bishop supported the historical studies and, with the participation of university professors, launched the Istituto per la storia ecclesiastica padovana. He was attentive to the needs of the students, founding accommodation facilities and, at the end of the Sixties, opening places of aggregation not controlled by the Azione cattolica where university students could confront each other. The article closes briefly dealing with the attitude held by the Church of Padua when the terrorist violence involved and hit the city and the university.
