Summary: | The article sums up the plurality of Protestant religious education in Germany that has grown since 1990. Thus, RE adapts school and regional characteristics. No less important contextual factors of religious education have pluralized: A majority of denominational or religious varieties of religious education in accordance with Article 7.3 of the Basic Law have come into being; ethics education as a substitute or alternative subject has become more differentiated – and not least the religious-demographic landscape, which plays a role in teaching through pupils and teachers. The author sees the flexibility of religious education as a strength and, anyway, all readings of religious education facing five common challenges. He welcomes the further development of denominational and religious cooperation and emphasizes that the training of teachers for such pluralism-friendly religious education is an overall theological task. |
