Summary: | In Argentine theology, the category of «the people» has great importance. The idea of people involves an idea of culture, that is, of an integral anthropology. The poor are capable of culture because they live in solidarity. Therefore, theologians, from Paul VI onwards, are invited to integrate popular piety as a founding moment of their work. Juan Carlos Scannone (1931-2019), an Argentine Jesuit, philosopher and companion of Pope Francis since the 1960s, was interested in popular piety, which he interpreted with the help of phenomenological categories (Lévinas and Ricœur), but also of «analectics» (Dussel). |
