Description
Summary:In Belarus a peaceful popular protest has been taking place for almost two months, and headed by three brave women. The red and white «revolution» began immediately after President Lukashenko, who has been in power for 26 years, announced the results of the presidential elections held August 9, 2020, with 80.23% of the popular votes attributed to himself. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the leader of the new opposition, received only 10% of the votes, while several polls instead showed her to be the winner. The protests, which are repeated every Sunday, have seen millions of people participate. A negotiated settlement of the current crisis seems to be the only way to avoid bloodshed.
