Description
Summary:The article aims to explore the fundamental features of the reception of the Second Vatican Council in Cuba, and goes beyond the usual description that presents the Catholic community on the island as a “Church of silence”, focused on cultural survival, and detached from any interest in evangelization. Here, the intention is to show how the Cuban Catholic community – lay people and pastors – has gone from clashing to critical collaboration with the new socio-political system, without letting itself be completely assimilated by it, nor identifying itself with a religious organization subordinate to the State.
