Licit gift exchange paradoxically requires both reciprocity and the lack of calculation, while market exchange involves the careful calculation of the values of goods or services exchanged. The שחד, in contrast, is illicit because the reciprocity it invokes harms third parties without establishing a stable relationship of trust even between the two principals. Biblische Texte, in denen Bestechung mit gewalttätiger Absicht oder gewalttätigem Ausgang diskutiert wird, veranschaulichen die Grenzen der israelitisch-judäischen Vorstellungen des Schenkens als soziale Praxis. Der Austausch von erlaubten Geschenken erfordert gegensätzlich Zweierlei: einerseits Gegenseitigkeit andererseits aber keine Spekulation, während der Marktaustausch die sorgfältige Berechnung der Werte der ausgetauschten Waren oder Dienstleistungen beinhaltet. Das שחד ist dagegen illegal, weil die Gegenseitigkeit, die es hervorruft, Dritten schadet, ohne selbst zwischen den beiden Auftraggebern ein stabiles Vertrauensverhältnis herzustellen. |
