| Summary: | The purpose of this article is to discuss and describe how disputes occurred between the healer Faustino Ribeiro Jr. and authorities in the city of Salvador-BA between the years 1903 and 1904. For that purpose, publications from newspapers of the time were used, the lawsuit filed against Faustino, in addition to an article published in Gazeta Médica da Bahia. It is discussed here, not only how much the modernizing and secularizing processes within particular national-nation formations would prevent religiosity, but also, how such processes would end up contributing, even if involuntarily, to the redefinition of magic and religion. Thus, it is explored how much in processes of accelerated modification of life forms, antinomies would be expressed between the consolidation of collective memories of biographical duration, and posthumous historical reconstruction, all within the complex interactions between differentially positioned agents. Pretende-se nesse artigo discutir e descrever as disputas ocorridas entre o curandeiro Faustino Ribeiro Jr. e autoridades da cidade de Salvador-BA entre os anos de 1903 e 1904. Para tanto foram utilizadas matérias de jornais da época, o processo impetrado contra Faustino, além de artigo publicado na Gazeta Médica da Bahia. Discute-se aqui, não apenas o quanto os processos modernizadores e secularizantes no interior de formações estado-nacionais particulares seriam impeditivos da religiosidade, mas também, como tais processos acabariam contribuindo, mesmo que involuntariamente, para a ressignificação de magia e da religião. Assim, explora-se o quanto em processos de modificação acelerada das formas de vida, se expressariam antinomias entre a consolidação das memórias coletivas de duração biográfica, e a reconstrução histórica póstuma, tudo isso no interior de complexas interações entre agentes diferencialmente posicionados. |
