Description
Summary:The rise of Marian cult is examined especially as a result of the intercultural communication of early Christianity and the socio-cultural context of the late Hellenistic period and in this context it is presented as the process from devotion to doctrine. The apocryphal literature testifies not only an important role of Mary, but it is possible to trace back the beginnings of the Marian legend to those texts. Mary and her cult as a cult of Mother of God is characteristic by common features of a Virgin Mother Goddess and it became an important part of the early Christian cult, although the theological controversies about Mary lasted much longer. Discussing the problems of Marian cult one of the main reasons for its quick spreading was the unarticulated female principle in early Christian religion in which the base people experience finds its expression.
