Summary:The article discusses the Gnostic attitude towards the Hebrew Bible (especially the first chapters of Genesis). On the one hand, the Gnostic authors did not agree with the way in which primordial things are presented in the First Book of Moses (Testimony of Truth, The Secret Book of John), but on the other hand, they were persuaded, that if you know how to interpret, the biblical story could reveal you the hidden truth concerning the true nature of man, God, and demiurge. -- The main attention is paid to the Gnostic texts relating to the story about the creation of Adam (On the Origin of the World, Hypostasis of Archons, The Secret Book of John, The Apocalypse of Adam), more accurately, on the first part of this story (from the boasting of demiurge to the creation of creeping Adam). The different manners of Gnostic interpretations are presented on concrete parts of texts (as the main text, the tractate On the Origin of the World is chosen), relating them back to Genesis. ...
