| Summary: | Based on a passage from Stefan Zweig’s drama "Jeremias", this article examines how the author describes the struggle of God’s people with their destiny in the catastrophic destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians and how he interprets their escape into exile. The "voices" which mourn the loss of all religious certainties finally believe, through Jeremiah’s prophetic words, that God and his Torah are in their midst and will accompany them into exile and diaspora, for wandering the earth is the people’s role intended by God. It is their permanent mission to make God’s plan for a humane society accessible to other peoples. |
