Summary:This contribution tackles issues surrounding the knowledge and use of biblical texts (Bibelkunde) in the run up to the final theological exams. It is proposed that merely knowing abstract details about the structure of biblical books and about certain key passages will not help students much in succeeding at the tests. Instead, students should be equipped by review courses with in-depth familiarity with biblical texts which should, at the same time, be interconnected with other spheres of exegetical knowledge (e. g. compositional or religious history, central theological motives, or form criticism). Several didactic suggestions for successful teaching and for conveying this textual familiarity are made.
