Summary: | The term »spirituality« has a chequered history with various attempts to explicate it. The authors of this issue of the Zeitschrift für katholische Theologie suggest to keep the following aspects in mind: 1 ) Human persons relate to things outside of themselves yet also to experiences revealing something that goes even deeper than their innermost selves. 2) Basic experiences regrounded in biographical and concrete cultural and historical circumstances. 3) Spirituality is the practice of shaping relationships and experiences in time and space with the help of relevant media and symbolic actions. 4) This generates a relationship to the self, the other, and the world. 5) Critical reflexion means reflecting and deepening of such experiences and their concomitant praxis of life. |
