Description
Summary:The article aims to provide an overview of the current situation in the Amazonregion starting from the acknowledgement of its social and cultural diversity –which is reflected in the various forms through which the territory is used, livedand signified – and the analysis of the main expansionist outreach in the regiondriven by the modern-colonial world-system in the current phase of capitalism. The struggle for territory, in its materiality and symbolic meaning, is the mainperspective for understanding the increase in territorial conflicts and figure outthe impacts of the civilization and epistemic crisis of the past few decades. Thedetermination of indigenous peoples and traditional communities in defendingthe territory, with all that this implies, against the instrumental reason of theState and the economic system, emerges as the main counterhegemonicprocess which can open up new perspectives for the future.
