Summary: | The article examines the presence of the theological theme in the thought of Gadamer, Ricoeur and Pareyson. Gadamer touches on the theme almost only in his latest book, underlining the importance of the contribution of hermeneutics to safeguard a correct concept of transcendence. For Ricoeur the hermeneutics of the symbols of the sacred is central, and in particular the hermeneutics of the symbols of evil, through which philosophy enriches the understanding of existence and being. He then underlines the importance of theological hermeneutics for philosophy. For Pareyson the hermeneutics of religious experience is the proper field of philosophy, because the religious experience is the fundamental experience of existence, which has its original expression in the myth, of which philosophy is interpretation. Philosophy, however, is not theology, because philosophy has a more universal destination. Pareyson envisions the need for a non-rationalistic thought, a revelatory, symbolic and dialectical thought. |
