| Summary: | O objetivo do presente trabalho é analisar e refletir sobre o fenómeno da Mutilação Genital Feminina na ótica da Liberdade Religiosa ocidental. Trata-se de uma investigação exploratória sociológica, mas com ângulos jurídicos e teológicos. Começaremos por analisar as consequências e as causas desta prática milenar considerada nefasta pela Organização Mundial de Saúde e violadora dos Direitos Humanos pela Organização da Nações Unidas, por colocar em risco a vida de milhares de raparigas e mulheres submetidas a ela um pouco por todo o mundo. Porém, daremos ênfase a problemática social que ocorre também em Portugal. Para isto, apresentaremos a prevalência da prática em Portugal, enquanto um país laico, acolhedor de várias etnias migratórias adeptas do fenómeno, passando pelos esforços que o estado português realiza no seu combate. Em causa estão para além do ultraje aos Direitos Humanos, também a complexidade do tema nas questões da Liberdade Religiosa. Faremos por fim, um breve percurso pelo quinto Objetivo de desenvolvimento Sustentável da Agenda 2030 que comporta a ideia de erradicação da prática. The objective of the present work is to analyze and reflect on the phenomenon of Female Genital Mutilation from the point of view of Western Religious Freedom. It is an exploratory sociological investigation, but with juridical and theological angles. We will begin by analyzing the consequences and causes of this age-old practice considered harmful by the World Health Organization and violating Human Rights by the United Nations Organization because it endangers the lives of thousands of girls and women subjected to it throughout the world, but we will emphasize the social problemsthat also occur in Portugal. For this, we will present the prevalence of the practice in Portugal, as a secular country, welcoming of several migratory ethnic groups adept of the phenomenon, passing through the efforts that the Portuguese state accomplishes in its fight. In addition to the outrage against Human Rights, there is also the complexity of the issue in matters of Religious Freedom. Finally, we will take a brief tour of the Fifth Sustainable Development Objective of Agenda 2030, which includes the idea of eradicating the practice |
