Summary:According to contemporary sources, the famous humanist scholar Giovanni Maria Cattaneo (died 1529/1530) wrote a Latin epic about Geoffrey of Bouillon (ca. 1060-1100) and the First Crusade. This apparently unfinished Solymis was considered lost for a long time. The following article presents a newly found fragment of 356 verses, which is preserved in the manuscript Milan, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Manoscritti, I 149 inf. It is an important excerpt from the oldest crusade epic of the Renaissance.
