Current healthcare systems offer a variety of expensive diagnostic and therapeutic options to elderly people (between 67 and 90 years old). To illustrate these issues, we focused on transcatheter aortic valve implantation (i.e. TAVI) cases. We used a qualitative approach in order to identify the individual value profiles. (n=20). Our data collection was structured around two-time frames namely (1) a few days and (2) nine to twelve months after the TAVI intervention (n = 12). Our findings show that the patients are willing to take risks to regain self-determination and autonomy. |
