Blickt man jedoch hinter die Kulissen gemeinsamer Entscheidungsverfahren bei Neugeborenen hinsichtlich der Lebensfähigkeitsgrenze (22. bis 25. Schwangerschaftswoche), erkennt man, dass Wert- und Vorurteile eine wichtige Rolle hierbei spielen. Aus diesem Grund ist es wichtig, die Qualität der Gespräche mit Eltern extrem Frühgeborener zu verbessern und die jeweiligen Werturteile zur Debatte zu stellen. The exercise of setting an indication may appear, on the face of it, purely as a clinical endeavour. However, looking behind the scenes of shared decision-making procedures in neonatal decision-making surrounding the limit of viability (weeks 22 to 25 of gestation), I want to argue that value judgments and biases play an important role. For that reason it is important to improve the quality of conversations with parents of extremely preterm infants and bring the respective value judgments up for a debate. |
