Description
Summary:This paper underlines the relevance of doing systematic qualitative evaluations about poverty and human development, based on the postulates of Benedict XVI and Francis on integral and sustainable development, as well as on the Capability Approach proposed by Amartya Sen and the Human Development Approach of the United Nations. From these approaches, poverty and human development are complex and multidimensional social phenomena, that consider objective and subjective aspects. To address these issues the contributions of the Catholic Social Teaching is taken into account, considering the multiple dimensions involved, as well as the humanizing and common good horizon. The need to carry out systematic qualitative evaluations at a national and international level that complement the quantitative measurements is highlighted, presenting their contributions and methodological and ethical considerations. Finally, address the implications and connections between these notions, as well as the conceptual and methodological challenges for the evaluation of poverty and human development within the framework of Christian Social Ethics.
