Summary: | This article starts by describing the transformation of the Protestant practice of celebrating the Eucharist in the past forty years when the Nürnberg Kirchentag marked the beginning of a ‚Eucharistic movement‘ in Germany’s Protestant churches focused on the community in the celebration. The problem, however, is that ‚community‘ tends to lose its political aspect, which this article tries to rediscover by rereading Luther and Calvin and by pointing to historical (South Africa) and current (US-American-Mexican border; Jeju Island, South Korea) examples. The article closes with ten theses on the ‚liberation‘ of the Eucharist from dominant logics, which tend to be superimposed on it. |
