| Summary: | The field of spirituality and religion in the workplace (SRW) has matured and gained legitimacy, but the long-term stability of the field is dependent upon resolution of a few serious issues. Research has coalesced around a definition of workplace spirituality and demonstrated the importance of workplace spirituality and spiritual leadership for organizational outcomes; however, epistemological and measurement issues challenge the validity of these findings. In an effort to resolve some of these issues, this paper solidifies the conceptual basis of organization-level workplace spirituality by describing the spiritual nature of organizations. In particular, it offers a theological basis for organizational spirituality, extends the definition of organization-level workplace spirituality, and outlines specific avenues for the spiritual formation of organizations. |
