Description
Summary:In recent years, there has been a significant growth in the number and visibility of LGBT families, that is, families where at least one parent identifies as lesbian, gay, bi, or trans (LGBT). There are many reasons for this increase; technological, social, and legal factors all have a part to play. This article considers three areas that research has shown impact on the well-being of families growing up in households with LGBT parents: societal attitudes towards LGBT people; supportive communities, including faith communities; and the quality of family relationships. This is done through sharing the words and the lived experience of LGBT parents and their children. The focus is on the UK, as that is the context in which the authors live and work, with the hope that these insights are relevant across different cultures.
