More than a dozen porters seems to be unparalleled in both ancient an more recent written and visual sources, including photographs. It will be examined whether and to what extent the representations of the porters of carrying chairs, and especially their numbe, in the Old Kingdom private tombs represent a reality, a snap-shot of a particular moment, o convey the idea of the event, with all the elements of which the mental image consists, regardless of whether they were all present, employed or visible at the same time or not. |
