Summary:Stefano Castagnola (Chiavari, 3 agosto 1825 – Genoa, 11 settembre 1891) was minister of Agriculture, industry and commerce of the Kingdom of Italy, mayor and academician in Genoa. As scholar of canon law he attempted to outline an exposition of Italian law on Church and State inspired by separatism. Such studies made him a precursor of the Diritto ecclesiastico as distinct discipline from canon law.
