| Summary: | Faith is not a blind motion of the soul, but an answer to a specific invitation. To be recognized, however, such invitation must be appreciable in a sensible manner. As Edith Stein says, belief "is not merely accepting the message of faith [...], by hearsay only, but rather being touched inwardly and experiencing God". One wonders how this divine "inner touch" can happen. Is it an absolutely ineffable experience? Or can it be shared with other human beings and, at least up to a certain point, penetrated by intelligence? This study tries to answer such, far from easy, questions. It moves from one's simple and common experience of being able to feel others within oneself. Indeed, the emergence of things and their meaning, the consistency of the world, the size of time, personal identity - of the self, the other, and even the Other - all generate together in the free space of a shared, empathic, relationship. Edith Stein follows this path - particularly thanks to her exceptional meeting with Teresa of Avila - and comes to perceive the Other's unexpected and surprising presence in the heart of her own soul. La fede non è un moto cieco dell’animo bensì la risposta a un preciso invito; questo invito però, affinché possa essere riconosciuto, deve essere sensibilmente apprezzabile. Come dice Edith Stein, credere "non è un mero accettare il messaggio della fede [...] solo per sentito dire, ma un essere toccati interiormente e uno sperimentare Dio". Ci si può chiedere come possa accadere questo divino "tocco interiore": si tratta cioè di un’esperienza assolutamente ineffabile oppure può essere condivisa e, almeno fino a un certo punto, penetrata dall’intelligenza? A tali domande non facili cerca di rispondere questo studio, muovendo da quell’esperienza semplice e comune che viene dalla possibilità di sentire gli altri dentro di sé: l’emergere delle cose e il loro senso, la consistenza del mondo e le dimensioni del tempo, anche l’identità personale dell’io e dell’altro, perfino dell’Altro, si generano assieme nello spazio libero di una relazione condivisa, empatica. Seguendo questa via - in modo particolare grazie all’incontro singolare con Teresa d’Avila - Edith Stein arriverà a percepire la presenza inattesa e sorprendente dell’Altro nel cuore della sua stessa anima.
