Summary:The middle Assyrian "heroic poem" VAT 13833, celebrating the victories of Tiglath-pileser I, includes in its battle scene a reference to the murderous attack upon pregnant women. This singular text is compared to biblical descriptions of this brutal act and reviews the editorial remarks concerning Menahem ben Gadi (2 Kgs 15.16), the only Israelite king to have perpetrated such an atrocity.
