As I will argue here, one area of resurgence that is being carefully documented by scholars is belief in the miraculous. In Leif Enger's Peace Like a River (2004) and Ron Hansen's Mariette in Ecstasy (1991), claims to the miraculous are taken seriously, and a recognition of the conditions of our secular age are notably at play. |
