| Σύνοψη: | Many a government around the world, especially so in the Asian/African regions, has been attempting to unite the people in terms of ethnic, religious and cultural identity. Because of this, religions among many nations seem to have a wider but a uniting impact on these regions, elevating the religion of the 'majority' to garner support for the government. Although the following seems specifically the case in Myanmar it has its deeper implications for the pluralistic nature of India, Sri Lanka and other regions also. At present in Myanmar, most people are frustrated by Myosaung Upadi, the draft proposal of the "Law of the Protection of Race and Religion," proposed by a Buddhist monks-formed organization called "the Association for the Protection of Race and Religion" (APRR). However, this law has been widely criticized and strongly condemned. The law was intended to protect proselytism or forced conversion in Myanmar. This research paper will therefore deal with the ecumenical understanding of Christian proselytism and that of controversial draft "Religious Conversion Law" in the country for the sake of the people of Myanmar regardless of religion and ethnicity. |
