Summary: | Public realm interpretations of the Bible, particularly those of significant figures, form part of the terrain of socially engaged biblical scholars. This article analyses two related public realm interpretations of Matthew’s "parable of the talents", one by a president and one for a president. The argument of the article is that such public realm interpretations demonstrate the interpretive struggle required to use the Bible for systemic social transformation in contexts in which the Bible tends to be used to focus on the individual and moral. |
