He maintained this flexibility also later as pope. Despite of all restorative and anti-enlightening intentions, he was even able to make compromises, so that he could conclude contracts between the States and the Church and could promote the peaceful co-existence of Catholics and Protestants in Germany. The most important field of conflict was there the question of confessional mixed marriages. | ||
