Description
Summary:The Hypostasis of the Archons (HypArch) 1 is an anonymous treatise setting forth a Gnostic interpretation of Genesis 1-6, partly in the form of a revelation discourse between an angel and an interlocutor. It exemplifies a wide-ranging Hellenistic syncretism whose most evident components are Jewish. But in its final form HypArch shows clear Christian features and can be considered a Christian work. Its theological perspective is a robust Gnosticism, of still undetermined sectarian affiliation. It was originally composed in the Greek language, probably, in Egypt. The date of composition cannot be determined, but some evidence points to the third century a.d
