| Summary: | Dreams gain transformative meaning when they are realized as communal action. When Congregational social action is engaged, it has the power to give meaning to communities of faith, create a culture of dialogue, encourage intentional reflection, and give life to the biblical witness in new and expanded ways. However, there are obstacles in the way of engagement and action. A resistance to change, the fear of confrontation, a vested interest in maintaining oppressive social structures, a real and perceived loss of cultural relevance and influence throughout all USAmerican churches, and hyper-individualism. Yet, even with all of these hindrances, in order for churches to retain their calling as the body of Christ in their communities, new and old dreams must manifest in brave communal action. |
