Summary: | The apocalyptic literature exhibits a worldview thatis significantly different from that of most of the Hebrew Bible, because of the expectation of judgment after death. This literatureis not more patient of injustice than were the prophets, butit has less interest in imagining a just society on earth. The Epistleof Enoch can serve as an illustration. It is exceptional in theapocalyptic literature in its concern with social injustice, but ithopes for redress after death rather than in this world. This shiftin perspective is also broadly true of the New Testament, as wecan see in the Gospel of Luke and the Epistle of James. |
