| Summary: | In Job 12:7-9, Job indicates that the knowledge of what the hand of Yhwh has done is known by land animals, aerial animals, the earth, and aquatic animals. Puzzled by the mention of the earth amidst a sequence of animals, scholars have crafted proposals to emend or read verse 8a in such a way that it refers to some type of living thing rather than to the earth. This paper demonstrates that each of these proposals has significant weaknesses, and that the mention of the earth in verse 8a is not puzzling. Thus, it is the earth which is mentioned in verse 8a. Its mention there helps to strengthen and intensify the general idea conveyed by Job 12:7-9 that the knowledge of what the hand of Yhwh has done is common knowledge. En Jb 12,7-9, Job affirme que la connaissance de ce que la main de Yhwh a fait est connue des animaux terrestres, des animaux du ciel, de la terre et des animaux aquatiques. Intrigués par la mention de la terre au milieu d'une séquence d'animaux, des exégètes ont fait des propositions afin de corriger ou de lire le verset 8a de manière à ce qu'il se réfère à une sorte de chose vivante plutôt qu'à la terre. Cette article montre que chacune de ces propositions présente des faiblesses importantes et que la mention de la terre au verset 8a n'a rien d'étonnant. Ainsi, c'est bien la terre qui est mentionnée au verset 8a. Sa mention ici contribue à renforcer et à intensifier l'idée générale transmise par Jb 12,7-9 selon laquelle la connaissance de ce que la main de Yhwh a fait est de notoriété publique. |
