Next, it explores the most typical theories before and after Noth, with a focus on their merits and problems. Lastly, it argues that the most promising theory is to regard the 480 years in 1 Kgs 6:1 as a post-exilic insertion to symbolise forty years rest for each of the twelve Israelite tribes. |
