Description
Summary:This essay unlocks Psalm 119 with reference to its internal system. In this, the relationship between the "word" of God (as Torah and in other forms of commandments) and the "path" of the pious stand in the center of the analysis. After the introduction (vv. 1-8) come the essential structural motifs in order: the truth of creation, the relationship of God in prayer (which the Psalm itself is), and the contested being-in-the-world of those who fear God. The keeping of God’s word as well as growing insight into it create - against all the misfortune that comes from its enemies - the positive experiences of faith. Its praise itself finds linguistic form in the present Psalm - as religious poetry.
