Summary: | Ecumenical dialogue has facilitated a remarkable consensus on eucharistic liturgy and theology, but anxieties about distinctive theologies and practices still pose obstacles to mutual recognition and intercommunion. Receptive ecumenism, however, can defuse anxieties and allow for the coexistence of disparate theologies and practices. This essay uses qualitative methods to explore the challenges and ecumenical potential offered by the practice of eucharistic adoration among millennial Catholic college students. The work of Talal Asad on ritual discipline and authority is used to propose that confessional resistance identity among these Catholics can be challenged by appealing to their own practice and experience. |
