He was involved in all that, but he never complained about these strains. Half a century after his death, here is asked about the influences of these events on his person and his tasks as historian. Meanwhile we can see how he reacted under the impression of war, authoritarian regime, sickness etc. in choosing the topics and the manners of his work and in using the given occasions in spite of all contrarieties. This may serve a better understanding of his contribution. |
