Summary: | This article investigates matters relating to Jews and Judaism in the sermons of Tomasz Mlodzianowski, a well-known seventeenth-century Polish Jesuit. Mlodzianowski spent some time in Persia where he claims to have witnessed an expulsion of the Jews. The reliability of his account is questioned, as well as the extent to which his description of Persian policies towards the Jews was based on his own experience or on other sources. Other, contemporary sources of Persian, Armenian and European origin are analysed to distinguish popular tales in that period from actual events in Persia. |
