Summary: | Transhumanism can be analysed as the emergence of a new religion characterised by multiple borrowings from various existing religions and historically identifiable currents of thought, but which also presents some original characteristics. In fact, this movement of thought and action can be placed in one of three main categories of religion; it has the characteristic elements of a “religious philosophy”, like Buddhism; it can be considered a religion without a personal god but not without a concept of the divine. The belief in “singularity” (the coming emergence of a global superintelligence), proclaimed as inevitable by several transhumanist thinkers, offers a good example. |
