| Summary: | A pesquisa etimológica em torno da palavra "leigo" abre várias possibilidades de reflexão para analisarmos a compreensão que se tem do papel do cristão dentro da Igreja e dos esforços realizadosnas últimas décadas para se criar uma teologia do laicato. A palavra "leigo", ao longo da história,dentro e fora do ambiente cristão, demonstra uma rica ambiguidade. O auxílio da etimologia soma-se à constatação de que o leigo cristão encontra na sociedade plural o lugar adequado para a realização de sua vocação. The etymological analysis of the word “layman” opens several possibilities for the understanding of the Christian’s role within the Church and the efforts made in the last decades for create a theology of the laity. The usage of word “layman” throughout history, inside and outside the Christian ambience, displays a rich ambiguity. Besides the aid of etymology, it can be noted that the lay Christian finds in a pluralistic society the opportunity for the fulfillment of his vocation. |
